500+ wc. sleep-slow rinharus. written to this thing pls listen and cry with me.

And picture this: an apartment room, darkness roosting over the bed. Still as sea. Slowly, Haru blinks, as sleep unsilts itself, and the red of Rin’s hair is the first thing that blooms foggily into vision, catching light from morning’s half-opened bottle of dawn; it spills golden from a crack between the curtains in muted tones, stretches slow, over the soft curve of Rin’s cheek. Haru stays cocooned in the stillness and tries to snatch the picture into memory.

A story about Sousuke’s Shoulder

aobasluttygaki:

You have probably seen the posts going around about Sousuke having a swimming injury. This is my opinion as to what happened, but I’d like to add some clarification as to why it might effect his swimming.

Keep in mind that for Sousuke, his key to success is the flexibility in his shoulders, according to Rin.

image

Thus, he seems to be stretching it quite a bit. However, extreme range of motion and flexibility means WEAKENED ligaments, making them more susceptible to injury.

image

image

Swimmers shoulder is common, simply strain of the muscles/tendons in the shoulder.

image

However, the more severe injury resulting is a TORN rotator cuff, which is a rip in the tendon that creates motion of the shoulder. This is a VERY likely possibility for someone who has weakened tendons that give them flexibility. Stronger Tendon = less motion. More motion = Weaker Tendon = Greater chance of massive tear.

image

So, if we work with the idea that Sousuke has a torn rotator cuff, as an active person, he would need to have surgery to repair the issue.

image

This is all well and good, however, surgery comes with side-effects. Even after surgery, there is a large rehabilitation time, and the presence of scar tissue on the tendon, which may PERMANENTLY decrease range of motion. This could also mean a permanent dent in Sousuke’s swimming career.

Now, it may seem like Sousuke is doing rehabilitation exercises. However, if you notice, he is using his right shoulder. Not his left.

image

image

image

The same exercises to rehabilitate a torn rotator cuff are the same recommended for PREVENTING torn rotator cuffs, which could mean he’s trying to protect his other shoulder from the same injury that plagued his other one.
image

He may not be exercising the other because the injury may be so severe that exercise is painful/will make the tear worse.  However, when he DOES swim and use that shoulder, he can be seen doing the spacular range of motion exercise shown above as well.

In addition, One of the reasons why Sousuke probably wanted to swim Freestyle in the non-official relay, and sat out the individual butterfly portion of the competition MAY BE because Butterfly is MUCH harder on the rotator cuff than any other stroke. Freestyle is one of the easier ( less painful) strokes.

image
image

Thus, Sousuke reserves butterfly for what he deems ‘important’ events. Both of which so far have included swimming with Rin.

image

image

THIS ALL BEING SAID:
If Sousuke’s injury is essentially irreparable, it would make sense for him to be sad about having been scouted.

image

Even sadder to have the chance to swim with Rin taken away from him.

image
image

And even sadder when Rin thinks he’s not giving his all on purpose.

image

image

…especially when swimming with him clearly meant so much to him as a child, even if he never acknowledged Rin’s passion for relays.

image

image

image

It makes sense for him to move 9 hours away from a potentially better school to swim in his home town with his old friend.

image

image

It makes sense for him to despise the person who Rin stopped swimming with him for.

imageimage

The same person who he thinks jeopardised  Rin’s dream, and the same person who may get to swim with Rin for a very long time in the future.

image

image

It makes sense that he is so miserable after the relay.

image

image

image

It make sense that after having waited so long to do it, he understands the way Nitori is feeling, and that’s why he’s able to give heartfelt advice, because it may very well be his last summer to swim with Rin.

image

image

It makes sense that he looks miserable every time he thinks Rin can’t see.
image

image

image

It makes sense that the relay didn’t show him the light that the others see.

image
image

image

image

Because the pain in his shoulder may serve as a reminder that he may not have very long left to swim with Rin, and he may never be able to live his own dream. Even if he wants to.

image

So in short, please be kind to Sousuke. He is not a jerk, he is not a dick, he is not an ass-hole. He is a very kind person who is probably currently trying to figure out what the hell to do with the rest of his life now that his previous dream is in the gutter, and how to maintain a friendship with someone whose entire life revolves around swimming. Please be kind to him.

I want support for ugly girls and lazy girls and girls that can’t ever get their eyeliner right. I want feminism that includes girls who are too big or too black to be on body positive blogs.

I want girls with acne scars and girls who don’t “pass” and girls with facial hair. I want girls who are, in fact, man hating lesbians. I want poor girls.

I need the girls who never took a course in gender studies but who still know the way that society treats them is bullshit.

It doesn’t feel like a revolution when we’re only showing more of the same, when we only raise up the voices of some women.

I need to do better. We all need to do better.
